We’ve reported on Parrot products before, especially with their new lineup at CES. I was greatly impressed with their new line of picture frames, and I finally had a chance to try out one of their newest: the DF7220.
The DF7220 is a complex piece of hardware, yet is simple to use. All I had to was plug the frame in an ordinary wall outlet, and it was ready to download pictures. Then I plugged in the USB into frame and transferred the files from a computer with a simple Cut and Paste procedure. There is also the option of downloading via Bluetooth from a mobile phone or camera.
According to the official record of the product, the frame can hold 300 photos. I am assuming that is with the SD/MMC card, because I was only able to get 50 or 60 without having a card inserted into the slot.
The photos are automatically adjusted to fit the 7 inch frame. Speaking of adjustment, you can adjust for vertical and horizontal photos by simply by turning the frame to the side. The frame has buttons on the back that I could use to make a slideshow, arrange photos, and even deletion of pictures if needed.
The Parrot DF7220 Wireless Digital Photo Frame is available soon, but so far no word on a price.

Okay, so being the winner of our “Pink Palm Centro Misery Giveaway” means you’ve been a big loser at love, at least once during Valentine’s Day, but now you’re getting the messaging phone extraordinaire and you can send hate messages to the one who wronged you. Only kidding….
The winner will be receiving the Pink Centro, valued at $399.99 (or $99 with a 2-year Sprint contract).
And the winning/losing story:
M & I had been dating for 7 years. Valentines Day was a huge day for us, as we had been set up on a blind date on V-day 2000. A mutual friend set us up & we hit it off immediately. We got close quickly, but were both happy with keeping our separate living arrangements as we were both professionals with busy work schedules. We had always talked of getting married at some point and having kids. We had similar ideas & ideals about marriage & families. Back to V-day. M always put a huge effort into making our V-day celebration special. I never knew from year to year what he would plan. One year, he whisked me away to NYC in a limo to an intimate dinner & then to a show that I had wanted to see. On the way, he took me to my favorite SoHo boutique to buy a new dress & beautiful shoes.
Don’t be too jealous, see the misery come in after the jump…

Though it’s hard to see where Clarion’s NAX973HD fits in between in-dash units installed at the factory and portable navigators, we suppose folks already drawn to a dedicated display or totally infatuated with this thing’s software may be in love. Marketed as a nav system that will churn out directions in Europe much quicker than those disc-based systems, this unit features a 30GB internal hard drive, 12-channel GPS receiver, built-in gyro sensor / RDS-TMC tuner for traffic information, pre-loaded NAVTEQ maps of 30 countries, voice recognition / text-to-speech capabilities, 2D / 3D map views and a VGA output to boot. Unfortunately, word on the street pegs this thing at £795 ($1,579) without a display, so we’d probably steer clear unless you’re crazy about automotive installations.

Sprint has joined AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile in offering unlimited cell phone calling plans. Sprint’s first unlimited plan is $99 and includes *everything*, not just calls, but data and PTT (Push to Talk) if you have one of those phones. Sprint is certainly pushing its competitors harder, and they must if they are to stem the financial bleeding they’ve been experiencing.
Ah, competition. It may be a cliche, but it really is amazing for consumers, although these price breaks and the possible ensuing price war may sink 1 or more of these cell providers before this is all over. But then again, it’s never over.

Toast has to be one of the most simplistic pieces of food to make that actually requires preparation. Just pull out the bread, pop it in the toaster, pull down the lever and it does the rest. The toaster itself is rather simple, you have metal brackets that hold down the toast and wires along the sides that heat up your bread. However, that just seems too simple for Philips, who has created a more modern toaster.
The new 1200W HD2618 just sounds complicated. It features a digital countdown timer, so you know exactly when your crunchy bread is going to pop up, selections for one or two-sided toasting and power of up to 1200 watts. Seriously, my old clunky toaster does just fine, and I’ll bet that the toast comes out exactly the same from mine as this $120 piece of equipment.

In another round of Verizon Loves/Hates consumers, we have the new AirCard/smartphone data plans that are being announced on March 2nd in the spotlight. With Verizon having announced their unlimited calling plans and also details about their new “Open Network” to be set loose later this year, they looked like they were becoming more user-friendly. Well, that’s changed with this most recent event.
Beginning March 2, the newly-announced data plans for smartphones and AirCards are now beinging advertised as 5GB per month for $59.99, the same price as before. But this time, it has a catch that shoots them in the foot multiple times: if you go over your 5GB limit, each megabyte afterwards is 50 cents. So even if you go to 5,121 megabytes, you’ll be paying $60.49. We knew there were going to be tradeoffs in the good/bad Verizon ordeal, but did they really have to keep it the same? All you out there who’d like truly unlimited data, check out Sprint with their EVDO cards. Unfortunately for those like me who’s only EVDO Rev. A provider is Verizon and were getting ready to buy an AirCard, you’ll be stuck with the new plan.
No word on if you’ll be able to keep your old terms of service on your existing data plan, though.

The much hyped merger of Satellite radio providers XM and Sirius has stalled, and the deadline is looming. The original deal was struck on February 19, 2007 and the termination date is Saturday. Sirius is desperate for the merger but regulators have still not approved the plan. Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin said he expects the boards of both companies to meet to extend that deadline. The DOJ seems to be stuck on the question of whether the merger would result in a monopoly. The answer to most is no, given that most satellite radio usage happens in cars, where DVD players, iPods, and free radio are also options. Since February 20, 2007, Sirius shares have fallen 22% to $3.05, while XM shares have sunk 15% to $13.13.

This little case-mod is so sweet it almost seems that the parts were made for each other. Mark Irwin took a Dremel to an old 35mm slide viewer, adding two speakers into the capacious case to make a standalone, slot-in media center for an iPod Nano. A quick Google reveals that this was indeed a match made in retro-heaven:
ipod Nano – Width: 2.06 inches
35mm Slide Mount – Width 2 inches
With 1970’s manufacturing tolerances taken into account, that amounts to exactly the same size.
At the risk of gushing, this is probably one of the neatest, smartest little DIY projects I’ve seen. Plus, it has Zoolander in it.
