Several of y’all have been skeptical or puzzled at this space’s insistence that more megapixels are not always a blessing in a digital camera, at least if they’re being squeezed onto the same size image sensor chip.
Jack Schofield, gadget weenie for London’s venerable The Guardian, does perhaps a better job of explaining than we have as he recounts his decision-making process in choosing an older mode of SLR over the latest thing, reasoning the lower-megapixel model would offer better image clarity:
This should not be a surprise. Nobody expected a Box Brownie to produce the same image quality as a Hasselblad simply because they used the same film. In fact, a camera’s megapixel rating can be misleading because it stops people from thinking about sensor size.
It pays to think big with digital camera sensors [The Guardian]

There has been some interesting news today, but the most important in my opinion, and for Apple’s business is that the iphone will finally support true Exchange Server support, instead of the crap pop4 support.
This will allow corporate users, professionals and fancy personal users to sync with their email, contacts and calendar, among other Exchange features.
It will be interesting to see if this will have an impact on blackberry and Windows Mobile.

Lenovo has announced a “green” computer that sounded like it’s ultra-small, until you see the photo.
“Lenovo today announced the ThinkCentre M57/M57P “Eco” ultra small desktop PC, the first desktop PC from any manufacturer to receive GREENGUARD certification”
Unless the monitor in the picture is a 7” one, I really do not see where “ultra-small” comes from. Of course, it might just be an inconsistency, another page shows a smaller computer, but it’s still not “ultra small”. Who at Lenovo let the marketing guys loose again?

While we’ve yet to see the rollout of Microsoft’s Surface, rumor has it that other versions have at least made it to the prototype stage. According to ZDNET’s sources, Microsoft has a “spherical Surface prototype” bouncing around the Redmond campus. What’s intriguing is how they managed to stuff a rear projection unit and IR cameras into a ball. Presumably, we’re talking about a different touch-sensitive technology to that used in the table-top surface. You know, assuming the rumor is true.

There are rumors floating around the Internet this week that the Xbox 360 is about to get a price cut across Europe. If correct, the price of all editions of the console will fall by US$76 and the reduction will come into effect on March 14.
The significance of the reduction would be that Microsoft’s base model, the Xbox 360 Arcade, would then be cheaper than the Nintendo Wii in European territories. It is also significant that it would come into effect right before the Easter holidays when children get 2-3 weeks off from school.
Apparently, retailers have had to sign NDAs with Microsoft so as not to announce the price changes early, but TechRadar claims several U.K. retailers have confirmed the news.
I believe it is the right time for Microsoft to reduce the price. The company has lost ground to Sony recently, and the favorable news for Blu-ray has also hurt Microsoft. Putting a bigger price margin between the 360 and the PS3 is going to help, and offering a machine at a lower price than the Wii isn’t bad either.
If this price reduction does end up happening, then I doubt it will be long before we see it in other territories, too.

The Toshiba Gigashot GSC-DW1 DVD burner is but a reminder to all of us that had hd dvd been made the dominant format in its war against Blu-ray, this would be recording on HD DVDs instead of regular DVDs. Still, Toshiba is forging onwards, with this peripheral targeting the Gigashot A/K series HD cameras, allowing users to record all their favorite memories onto a single layer DVD-R via USB 2.0. Each $173 purchase comes with a remote control that makes it a snap to play back your recordings via composite, component or HDMI output to a TV display. It will be available in Japan later this month, although there is no word on when it will be released in other parts of the world.

Suffering from a sinus problem might be a minor problem for some, but one thing’s for sure - it is very irritating to wake up to a runny nose all the time. Dr. Murray Grossan claims to have the solution to the age-old problem, having successfully treated thousands of patients with all degrees of sinusitis courtesy of his very own Hydro Pulse Pulsatile Sinus System. Touted to be the “only sinus/nasal irrigation system available that pulsates”, the Hydro Pulse will send saline into the nasal passages gently via a therapeutic rhythm. This groundbreaking innovation has been shown to be more effective in treating chronic sinusitis and other respiratory maladies than other available methods.
According to Dr. Grossan, “The latest use for the Hydro Pulse is to add certain medications directly into the saline solution, enabling patients to deliver a far more concentrated dose than via the oral route of antibiotics. My ultimate goal is to reduce the amount of unnecessary antibiotics. The Hydro Pulse provides the best means for your own natural immune system to take over and heal by lowering bacterial count and keeping the cilia moving.” Here’s a further description on how it works in detail.
The Hydro Pulse has the unique ability to vibrate the saline stream, which restores the healthy movement of nasal cilia, the tiny hairs that make up the mucous membrane and wave rhythmically to carry anything on their surface out of the respiratory tract. Healthy, mobile cilia are one of the body’s most important disease-fighting mechanisms and the first line of defense against a myriad of viruses, fungal and bacterial infections, including the drug-
resistant MRSA.
Hydro Pulse is an effective tool in fighting bacteria, colds and flu. Studies document that pulsatile irrigation of the sinuses with saline solution can help to prevent colds because it washes out the nasal protein, ICAM-1 to which the rhinovirus attaches to produce colds. No ICAM-1, no entry for the cold virus.

Samsung and Adidas have come together to bring a fitness-centered handset, known as the miCoach (F110). This quad-band slider cell phone features a dedicated fitness button that furnishes you with details about your heart beat, distance covered and running time when hooked up to a heart monitor and a step counter. You don’t even need to hook it up to a PC to view all those information, as you can view running information on-the-fly by tapping the display. Your heartbeat rate will also let you know whether you’re running too fast or slow, depending on the fitness programme you picked out. There are over 220 training programmes available for the miCoach, and you will find something for everyone regardless of your fitness goals. Do you think this will break Nike and Apple’s dominance? The miCoach is tipped to be available from next month onwards.
